This season's colors
A cool, quiet shade — the exact opposite of holiday red, a great pick if you want the new year to look nothing like December.
Metallic but cold-toned — not the same as holiday gold. Works well as full coverage on short nails, not just an accent.
Beige with a cool undertone — the most versatile pick for going back to the office after the holiday break.
Dark but not black — an alternative to autumn's burgundy, reads elegant through the whole winter season, not just the holidays.
Finish
A frost effect (cat-eye/magnetic gel) — a technique that catches light like real frost on a window in winter's low sun. A distinct third technique from autumn's matte and the holiday chrome accent.
Shape and length
Short and medium lengths — hands spend more time in gloves in winter, and a very long form chips and breaks faster in cold, dry air.
When to book
January is the calmest month at the studio after December's peak — easy to get a slot, and a good moment for a restorative treatment after the holiday season's wear.
How long it lasts
One set comfortably covers January through mid-February — 3 weeks of wear, one refill partway through.
What not to do
Don't pick very light, pearly shades on chapped, winter-dry skin without hydrating first — a light color draws more attention to dry skin around the nail than a dark one does.

Carnival nails — for a ball or a studniówka, bolder than everyday winter
Karnawał (Polish carnival season, from Epiphany through Ash Wednesday) is ball and studniówka season — a different reason to book than the calm back-to-work stretch in the section above. This is where the winter palette can lean into what it avoids day-to-day: rhinestones, heavy glitter, a bold design on 1-2 nails over a solid icy-blue, silver or deep-navy base. January and February are also studniówka (Polish prom) season — if you're booking for one, plan ahead, since the same weeks get booked up by bridesmaids and mothers-of-graduates too.
